Sugar and Cream

An inspiration board for those of you who enjoy white wedding flowers... It is pure, elegant, and traditional like no other color. The idea for this is very full & lush garden bunches as opposed to that of a loosely picked country feel. I love the cream accents to add that little distraction from what would otherwise be an avalanche of flowers.

Enjoy!

The Wedding University

On February 8th I had the privilege of volunteering for The Wedding University held at the Four Seasons Palo Alto.

This is a project headed by:
Flowers by: Nancy Liu Chin http://www.nancyliuchin.com/
Photography at the Event: (not the pictures below) http://www.kevinchin.com/
Design by: Gloria Wong Tritsavit http://www.sashandsugar.com/
Lighting by: Enhanced Lighting http://www.enhancedlighting.com/
Paper Goods by: Chewing the Cud http://www.chewingthecud.com/
Catering and Hosting by: The Four Seasons of Palo Alto, CA

The list is even bigger than that, but it's all I can remember tonight.
The Four Seasons was exceptionally kind to everyone (including us volunteers) and what fun it was for all of the engaged couples that were "students" for a day. I wish there was something like that when I got married! It even held the men's attention with the lavish food and knowledgeable speakers who kept everyone entertained. At one point I noticed a groom frantically scribbling down notes during a lecture. How cute!!
Of course, the best part of the experience for me was the 4 glorious showrooms set up in a quad with a lounge center. These are just some of the highlights from the day and I know you won't be disappointed. I am so glad I was a part of the team and I learned a few things too!

The photographs are not of my work. I only assisted and all of the credit goes to the above vendors. I don't usually like to feature other floral designers as to avoid confusion but how could I not share these fabulous vignettes!

Fragrant Freesia

I wish you could smell this bouquet that was made today for a belated birthday. Between the sweet Stock, scented Geranium Leaf, and the two kinds of Freesia this one's sure make its presence known in any room.

For me the scent of Freesia will always remind me of Senior prom. My now husband gave me a white Freesia corsage that had spent a little time in the freezer. The logic behind putting my corsage in the freezer, says Wayne, was that if the refrigerator kept it fresh, then the freezer was sure to keep it VERY fresh! He knows better now and I will never forget my fragrant Freesia corsage with slightly freezer burnt petals. (Chuckle)

Bouquet of the Week

Our Bi-weekly feature takes a turn towards magenta and purple today with a bouquet that boasts the unusual combination of Dahlias and Larkspur. This bold beauty is sure to stand out in the crowd!

Special Delivery

Happy Valentine's Day! I hope everyone feels a little extra special this weekend.

When I was in elementary school I couldn't wait for this holiday. It not only gave me an excuse to load up on those chalky but tasty candy hearts, but also gave me a chance to pass out and collect those adorable little valentines that are made just for children. I would try and stuff as many candies as my mother would let me into the tiny envelopes for all of my friends and classmates and then make a special mailbox for all of the valentines I hoped to receive in return. I vividly remember having a crush on a boy and hand picking the messages that his candy hearts spelled out before I put them in his valentine. I'm sure he had no clue!
On a personal note: My husband just gave me an early present tonight that was a total surprise. Apparently my favorite movie of all time has been out of print for 3 years and he drove an hour each way to get me a copy. How sweet! I'll have to save the best candy hearts (with the best love phrases) for his valentine!
So now onto the "Special Deliveries". As you know this is a blog about life in the flower biz, some personal commentary, and lessons learned. I delivered 5 arrangements today and I learned so much from staying up all night and working on my orders. Sometimes it's so wonderful to be in the zone and work alone with your flowers and other times you just need some sleep. I'm not exactly sure when my mood switched from the first to the second, but needless to say I will probably not make as many deliveries next year. Whew! My mother, husband, cousin, son, and I are all exhausted from my morning's insane delivery schedule.
That said, I filled some very beautiful vases with different interpretations of what this weekend means to the men that ordered them and what they wanted for their companions. I love the diversity! Thank you to Sean, Eric, Emery, and Joe for ordering these fun fleurs for their special someones. The name of the red roses above are Latin Lady. The purple roses above are Avante Garde. Very fitting names! Enjoy...

Ring in Spring

I just can't wait until springtime! The bulbs burst from the ground and the San Francisco flower market explodes with daffodils, tulips, flowering branches, and happy bright colors. The photo above is a piece I created for just that reason. It has tiny flowers threaded on bear grass rings and one bold tulip to boast of the bounty of blooms that is to come.

Bouquet of the Week

It's time for a new series on the blog. Starting tonight The Petal Press with feature a bi-weekly bouquet photo for the brides and flower lovers alike. I have been making quite a few lately and this is a great way to share them. My goal is to offer a wide variety that reflects all of the unique brides that I meet and ultimately....Inspiration!

Until the next bouquet, I offer the arctic yet ethereal ranunculus coupled with a mix of other light white flowers that include: extremely fragrant double paperwhites, tulips, roses, and mini cymbidium orchids.

Enjoy!
